From the perspective of production cost, the price of CBN grinding wheel is much higher than that of diamond grinding wheel. If the machining workpiece allows, the diamond grinding wheel is preferably the same as the CBN grinding wheel.
First, different types of abrasives
CBN is the compound boron nitride, and diamond is elemental carbon.
Second, the processing objects are different
Diamond grinding wheels are mainly used to process hard and brittle materials, such as diamonds, carbides, ceramics, glass and other workpieces;
CBN grinding wheels are mainly used to process hard and tough materials, especially ferrous metals, such as various steel parts, cast iron, etc., such as the following workpieces: auto parts - crankshafts, camshafts, etc., hydraulic parts, compressor parts, etc.
Cubic boron nitride can withstand the temperature of 1250-1350 degrees Celsius, which is even higher than the heat resistance of diamond at 800 degrees Celsius; when grinding and cutting iron materials, there will be no sticky chip phenomenon, and when grinding hardened steel, vanadium speed steel, Metal materials that are sensitive to grinding temperature, such as aluminum speed steel, are ideal grinding wheels.
However, cubic boron nitride cannot replace diamond grinding wheels for grinding hard alloys and non-metallic hard materials.
When grinding, only oil-based coolant can be used instead of water-based coolant. Because, at the grinding temperature, CBN will react chemically with alkaline aqueous solution, CBN grinding wheel will decompose in alkaline solution at 300 ℃, and it will decompose in small amount in boiling water, which will destroy the crystal shape of abrasive grains.
From the perspective of production cost, the price of CBN grinding wheel is much higher than that of diamond grinding wheel. If the workpiece is allowed to be processed, diamond grinding wheel is preferred to CBN grinding wheel. Therefore, diamond grinding wheel and CBN grinding wheel have their own strengths and responsibilities in grinding processing. For grinding, you must choose tools that suit you, not expensive tools.
